Markets and investor sentiment remains torn between optimism over peaking inflation with expectations of a ‘soft landing’ for the economy, and fears of a ‘higher for longer’ rate environment.

 

Outlook – Fourth Quarter 2023

 

“ (…) the Japanese economy is purring and valuations are still preferable to other developed economies despite the year to date rally. We are not so keen on European stocks in light of the flagging forward economic indicators, and German equities in particular have epitomised the regions’ slowdown thanks to higher borrowing costs, still elevated inflation and a rebound in oil as the DAX has retraced heavily in recent weeks.”
